MARINE
RADIO OPERATORS' CERTIFICATE OF PROFICIENCY
Following successful completion of this
Marine Radio Operators'
Certificate of Proficiency (MROCP) or Marine Radio Operators'
VHF Certificate of Proficiency (MROVCP), users will understand the
use and operation of VHF, MF/HF and digital selective calling (DSC)
operating procedures, particularly those relating to distress, urgency
and safety.
Lectures are carried out by the Royal Volunteer Coastal Patrol
Officers with course manuals and examination determined by the
University of Tasmania (UTS) incorporating the Australian Maritime
College.
The course and the licence is recognised worldwide but penalties
apply for unlicensed use of VHF or MF/HF radios.
Courses include protocols, EPIRBs, DSC (Digital Selective Calling),
aerial & battery maintenance and transponder operations.
A passport-size photograph is required to be provided by each
candidate.
This training runs for three evenings followed by an exam on the
following Saturday.
